ELIGIBILITY FOR COJGA

Who can play?

LEVEL 1 - INTRO TO GOLF

  1.  Players should be between six and seventeen years old.

  2.  Each player may have his or her own clubs but is not required.

  3.  Each player will receive a basic knowledge of how to hit a golf ball and learn to play golf while developing athletically.

  4.  Each player may be accompanied by a parent or guardian to help learn the basics and ideas on how to train as a family.

  5.  Each player should arrive at least ten minutes before the designated start time.

  6.  There is no need to qualify for this program.

LEVEL 2 - JUNIOR VARSITY

  1.  Players should be between six and seventeen years old.

  2.  Each player should have his or her own clubs.

  3.  Each player should have a basic knowledge of how to play a round of golf with a desire to learn more about the rules of the game as well as develop skills to improve as a golfer.

  4.  Each player may be accompanied by a parent or guardian to help with scoring, shuttles, rules questions, etc.

  5.  Each player should arrive one half hour before the designated start time and develop a warm-up routine.

  6.  There is no need to qualify for this program.

LEVEL 3 - VARSITY

  1.  Players should be between eight and seventeen years old. Exceptions may be made for highly skilled players younger than eight or graduating seniors.

  2.  Each player must have his or her own clubs.

  3.  Each player should feel comfortable playing a round of golf and be reasonably familiar with the rules of golf without any parental aid (swing, rules, etc.)

  4.  We've decided to eliminate qualification events for this year, and instead allow players/parents to determine best division for their players with the understanding that we have the flexibility to move players up or down based on how the season is progressing. 

  5. As a rule of thumb, competitive level divisions often shoot in the 90s or better for 18 holes from an age appropriate yardage.
