2019 COJGA INFORMATION LETTER
Summer is fast approaching and it's time to start planning your COJGA tournament golf schedule.
Dear Central Oregon Junior Golfers and Parents:
On behalf of the Central Oregon Junior Golf Association Board of Directors, I would like to personally invite you to join us for another exciting season of junior golf!
Considerations for the 2019 summer golf season.
Registration OPENS May 13. Our board of directors has undertaken a significant effort this offseason to revamp our COJGA website and registration process. Beginning May 13, please go to our website www.cojga.org and click on the “Registration” tab in the upper right corner. This will take you to a Golf Genius registration page which will provide the ability to register for COJGA and events. You will need to use an email address to register for Golf Genius. If you have multiple juniors to register please follow the instructions provided.
Payment will be done via credit card payment at the end of the process. You will get email confirmation once your account has been approved. For the rest of season you will use this account to register online for events.
Qualification Events Scheduled. For players new to COJGA or those looking to move up a division we highly recommend attending one of our two qualification events held at Awbrey Glen. They are scheduled for Wed 5/22 from 4:30 - 6:30 and Sat 5/25 from 3:00 - 5:00. Qualification should take approx 30 minutes to complete. The purpose of qualifying is to make sure everyone ends up in the appropriate division to give everyone be the best opportunity to enjoy their COJGA season.
Tournament Schedule and New Formats. 2019 schedule is available on www.cojga.org/tournaments/2019-tournament-schedule.
The first event of the season will be at River’s Edge golf course and will be a 2-person scramble format. This event is unique this year in that you can sign up with a friend who is not already a COJGA member. We have done this to encourage anyone that is interested in checking out COJGA to come see what COJGA is all about without having to commit to the $80 registration fee. Members can also play on a team with other members. There is still the normal $25 event registration fee for this event, which covers both greens fees and lunch after the round. To register for this event, please use the Registration button to register for a COJGA Membership, pay for the registration fee and then sign up for the tournament. If you are bringing a guest you will also need to sign your guest up.
Another new feature this year is that we will not have an official COJGA tournament July 22nd, but instead encourage anyone interested to sign up for the OGA Central Oregon Major that is held at Meadow Lakes and Eagle Crest on July 22nd and 23rd. Registration for this OGA event can be found on the OGA website.
As in previous years we will be hosting 3 events targeted for beginning 6-8 year old golfers. These events will be played at the 5 hole loop course at Awbrey Glen on Tuesday evenings.
The year-end COJGA Cup Tournament will again be an invitation based tournament and will be held on August 18th at Eagle Crest. Invitations will be based upon participation in a minimum of TWO regular season tournaments and priority will be given to event winners, points earned and scoring average. For long standing COJGA members 16 and older, the Board reserves the right to invite members who may have only participated in ONE tournament. Additionally, any players who participate in the OGA Central Oregon Major may request that their performance in that tournament be considered for invitation to the COJGA Cup.
The year-end banquet will be held on Saturday August 18th following the COJGA Cup – all COJGA members and their families are encouraged to attend, even if they have not been invited to participate in the COJGA Cup event.
Each COJGA family will be expected to provide one volunteer for every two to three events that a player participates in throughout the season. Volunteer assignments include: check-in, walking scorer, shuttle cart drivers, scoreboard and others. Since we are a volunteer organization, our parents and family members will continue to be a very important part of our success. Instructions for signing up for volunteer assignments will be coming shortly.
Scholarship Funds - If you require funds to assist with any COJGA registration or event fees, scholarship funds have graciously been made available by our sponsors. For information on how to take advantage of our scholarship program please contact me directly.
Donations - Finally, the strength of our organization and our ability to continue providing a high quality opportunity for all our members relies in part on the generosity of our members. Each year, through the membership application process, a high percentage of our members donate small amounts that collectively are a meaningful funding source for COJGA. The 2019 operating plan anticipates over $45,000 in expenditures which is funded by a combination of donations and participation fees.
We encourage you to consider making a tax-deductible donation to COJGA.
For over 26 years, we have served the youth through our organized tournaments.
